Mies meets Half-Life is an architectural and computer graphics experiment. The idea is to install computers containing a virtual model of the Neue Nationalgalerie in the original Neue Nationalgalerie. Instead of experiencing the art and gallery from a physical point of view one interacts with the artwork and visitors via the www removing the museum's dogmas of silence and do not disturb etiquette. At the end of the journey the user goes home with a DVD of his or her experience and new friends.
It was presented at the Bauhaus, Weimar in July 2001. The project was designed to stimulate emotions. Half-Life Counterstrike was one of the most violent computer games at this time (and still is). This was somewhat of a social critic of the future of technology, art and architecture; in some ways it foreshadowed the events of 09.11.2001 remote controlled simulation learning that gave terrorists access to lethal weapons and space.
Thanks to the artist and network bandwidth: Pablo Alonso, Heimo Lattner, Stefan Schröder, Istvan Szilasi & Thing.net.
Half-Life is a registered trademark.
